KoreaKorea to require release of AI training data built with public money as AI Basic Act amendment clears cabinet

An amendment to Korea's AI Basic Act requiring that AI training data built with government funding be published on the 'AI Hub' platform has passed the cabinet.

According to AI Times, the Ministry of Science and ICT said on Oct 14 that amendments to the AI Basic Act and the Data Industry Act cleared the cabinet. Exceptions include trade secrets, personal data, copyright and national security. The Data Industry Act change requires public institutions to cooperate with the 'One-Window' public-private data search platform unless they have a specific reason not to.

Both take effect next April after promulgation.
