Germany'Google's AI answers are Google's words': two German courts hold it liable
German courts are treating Google's AI search answers as Google's own statements and holding it liable for errors.
The Decoder reported Oct 18 that the Aachen Regional Court issued a Sept 24 injunction barring Google from spreading false claims about a physician through AI search. Google's AI Mode had tied his departure from a hospital to criminal proceedings that involved someone else.
The court relied on a May ruling by the Munich Regional Court I that AI-generated summaries are Google's own content, not links to third-party sites. Google announced an appeal in Munich but settled before a higher court ruled. The Aachen decision is not final and Google can challenge it.
