Elon Musk says he will give one of his SpaceX shares to every child in the U.S. next year.
'This will be the first of many,' Musk posted on X on Oct 19, without saying how the giveaway would work. The post passed 8.5 million views and 233,000 likes within hours.
The pledge came the morning after Anthropic said it would put 5% of its shares into a new public benefit fund that could make direct distributions to people hit by AI job losses. Musk had replied to that announcement: 'I recommend giving the shares directly to the public.'
Per CNBC, Musk holds about 4.8 billion SpaceX shares. With roughly 72 million Americans under 18, the gift would be worth about $10.5 billion at Friday's close of $146.03.
