AI musicAI singer 'Meomuru' hits No. 3 on Melon: 'no human sang this song,' and AI idol covers pile up

Meomuru's "Did I Become the Adult I Dreamed Of?", sung by an AI voice, climbed to No. 3 on Korea's Melon Top 100 and reignited the AI-singer debate. The official video has passed 11.46 million views.

The creator has said they planned and wrote the song and made the vocals with the generative AI tool Suno. As word spread that it was AI, a comment reading "I came after hearing the shocking news that it's AI" drew 2,000 likes, while listeners split between calling for AI labels and saying a good song is a good song.

On Oct 15 the songwriting-class channel MichinGamsung met the creator; the video passed 60,000 views in three days. Its top comment warned against courses that skip the years of music experience and months of promotion and sell "a few clicks to big money."

AI idol covers are booming too. An AI boy-group cover of A2O LITE's "NEON" (Dream Dol, Oct 13) passed 117,000 views, with comments like "a real boy group would have killed this" (289 likes) and "peak SM identity" (228). The maker says it was built with Suno and Cubase and mixed by hand.
