GTA V passers-by now talk back: NPCTalk, built with Claude

NPCTalk, a modding toolkit that lets game characters answer players in real time, drew 6,000 likes on X.

According to the universal-modder account on Oct 16, any passer-by in GTA V answers in character, in a cloned voice, in about a second, and acts on what it hears. The GitHub page's examples include Lamar roasting the player's hoodie and a cop telling them to file a civil claim and flipping them off.

The developer said the skills Claude learned while building it are packaged in one repo, running on open models: NVIDIA Nemotron for speech recognition, Qwen 3.8 27B for dialogue and Fish Audio Drama 3 for voices. It works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI under the MIT license, and a playable mod is due free next week.

“NPCs can talk back now! Introducing NPCTalk: make the NPCs of any game talk in realtime.”
