Anthropic drops the waitlist for Opus 5.5 fast mode, up to 2.5x faster at $8/$40

Anthropic has taken fast mode for Claude Opus 5.5 out of research preview and removed the waitlist, opening the up-to-2.5x-faster option to every API customer.

The company's ClaudeDevs account said on Oct 15 that fast mode runs the same Opus 5.5 model at higher output speed for $8 per million input tokens and $40 per million output tokens. According to the docs, developers no longer need a beta header or an access request; setting speed: "fast" is enough, and every usage tier gets a dedicated fast mode rate limit. It is also available in Microsoft Foundry for Azure-hosted deployments, with Google Cloud "coming soon." Fast mode in Claude Code is unchanged and still draws on extra usage credits, and replies quickly filled with requests to bring it to Claude Code without them.

“Opus 5.5 fast mode in the Claude Platform is no longer in research preview, and we’ve removed the waitlist!”
