After Amazon started blocking the Grok Bot AI agent from placing orders, Elon Musk replied, "Maybe we should start a competitor to Amazon."
On Oct 15 an X user posted Amazon's notice: "Continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use, to which our customers have agreed." The post passed 14 million views. Musk first answered that users could "just ask Grok Bot to buy what you want someplace else," adding that his own bot bought LEGO straight from LEGO's site.
His competitor post then passed 120,000 likes, and he answered "Makes sense" to a pitch for an agent-first store selling only US-made goods. Users also shared a workaround that routes the bot through the Browserbase cloud browser.
