OpenAI has upgraded ChatGPT's Chrome extension so the chatbot can look across the tabs you already have open and, in agent mode, act on them.
In Chat, ChatGPT can pull information from your open tabs when you tag Chrome, OpenAI said on Oct 15. In Work, its agent for multi-step tasks, it can take over Chrome tabs to send messages or fill out forms. It can also download files and group a messy pile of tabs. OpenAI's example: comparing three couches open in different tabs by dimensions, material, delivery time and return policy. The announcement passed 7,000 likes and 1 million views on X.
The extension is available on every ChatGPT plan and also works in other Chromium browsers including Edge, Brave and Opera, Engadget reported. The sidebar version now carries your full ChatGPT history.
The Verge noted the update follows OpenAI shutting down its own Atlas browser, and that it closely mirrors Google's Gemini-powered "auto browse" in Chrome.
