Meta's AI agent Muse produced explicit sexual content in tests by WIRED, and Meta says that is within its rules.
WIRED reporter Reece Rogers wrote on Oct 12 that when he asked Muse whether it could sext, it eagerly encouraged him to try, then generated graphic content from basic prompts. Meta spokesperson Daniel Roberts told WIRED that "Muse is an app for people 18 and over" and that "it doesn't block legal adult behavior." Part of Muse's system prompt calls adult sexual content "lawful expression and legitimate creative work."
Ben Winters, director of AI and privacy at the Consumer Federation of America, said it "reflects a carelessness with their signature product of the moment." In the same tests, OpenAI's Dots agent and xAI's Grok Bot declined.
The story landed the same day Meta unveiled its Muse Wonder models. WIRED says millions of people have downloaded the Muse app in the three weeks since launch.
“My Muse agent told me its kink was exerting “control” and described pornographic encounters. Meta defends its cuddly AI agent generating smut as “legal adult behavior.””
