KoreaSamsung's Lee Jae-yong dancing to K-pop? One-photo AI dance clips stir a likeness-rights debate in Korea
AI clips that make real people dance from a single photo are spreading on Korean social media, raising concerns about likeness rights.
According to Seoul Economic TV on Oct 24, viral clips show comedians Park Myung-soo and Jung Joon-ha in costume dancing to a girl-group song, and similar videos feature Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Chairman Chey Tae-won. They are made with tools like U.S. startup Higgsfield's Genjutsu, which transfers motion from a source video onto the person in a photo.
Social-analytics platform Sometrend counted a 5,355% year-on-year jump in Higgsfield mentions from Sept 16 to Oct 15. Korea's AI Basic Act, in force since January, requires AI-generated labels only from service providers, so clips made by ordinary users fall under separate likeness and defamation laws.
