"This is chess LARP": a viral Meta-glasses chess cheating clip hits 590,000 views, and GothamChess picks it apart
First seen on X 15 hours ago@CodeByPoonam ♥ 6,0891 views
A man who says he barely plays chess wore Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses to beat a stranger in a park, and the video spread fast. The glasses capture the board, GPT reads the pieces, and the Stockfish engine calculates the moves.
According to Dexerto on Oct 23, the original came from TikTok user SourGrape02 and spread across Instagram, YouTube, Reddit and even LinkedIn, racking up millions of views. A repost on X by @CodeByPoonam passed 590,000 views and 6,100 likes.
Chess YouTuber Levy Rozman (GothamChess) called it "chess LARP" in an Oct 21 Short and said the video "makes no sense at all." The chess clock wasn't even running, he noted, and the game was the Blackburne Shilling Gambit, a trap that beats beginners in seven or eight moves without any help. Similar glasses were built back in January 2025 by 17-year-old Eddy Xu, he added.
On X, "And just like that human iq dropped by at least 20 points" drew 94 likes. Another reply: "Better to lose & keep your brain."
“This guy used Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, AI, and a MacBook to cheat at chess game.”

Using your brain is so much cooler than being a robot and not really understanding the game. Better to lose & keep your brain.
