"also can someone at gmail make it so you can't scan for deactivated email addresses π«©? I was hoping for a relaxing Friday night." Thariq Shihipar of the Claude Code team posted that, with 1,600 likes, right after announcing he'd left Anthropic. About four hours before his own post, @ArfurGrok, an account that tracks hires and exits across tech, had already reported it.
"I've left Anthropic after more than a year of working on Claude Code and seeing it scale larger than I ever imagined," Shihipar wrote Friday night (Oct 23 PT), adding that he's taking "a bit of a break before diving into something new." He pointed fans to Addy Osmani, Lydia Hallie, Cat Wu and Boris Cherny, "who started it all." The post passed 18,000 likes and 1.5 million views.
The same tracker reported that Anthony Morris, who has been shipping the Claude Code desktop app, also left; Morris hasn't commented. With the two reports 45 minutes apart, "What's going on at Anthropic??" posts followed. "You don't just see this many key people suddenly leave a company out of nowhere," one account wrote (485 likes). The reply underneath: "It's just two people."
The best-liked take was a joke. "He quit because he can finally afford the Opus bill," wrote Hyperbolic CTO Yuchen Jin, drawing 2,300 likes.
