CopyrightUniversal and Sony press DistroKid to reveal how much AI music it ships

Universal Music Group and Sony Music asked a court to make distributor DistroKid disclose how much AI-generated music it delivers, as part of their lawsuit against AI music generator Suno.

Per Hypebot on Oct 19, the labels' motion in Manhattan federal court seeks exact figures on AI tracks DistroKid sends to streaming services, including monthly totals flagged by its AI detection software.

To defeat Suno's fair-use defense, the labels must show AI music harms the market for human creators. Court filings say DistroKid delivered nearly 12 million tracks to a single major streaming service in six months, more than half of that service's uploads. DistroKid said it will 'cooperate with the legal process' as a third party.
