A six-minute speech video Matthew McConaughey posted on X is drawing accusations that it reads like ChatGPT, with one viral post passing 3,000 likes.
McConaughey shared the video on Oct 18 with the caption "Independent counts." It has 5.6 million views and 15,000 likes.
Conservative commentator Matt Walsh quoted lines like "That's not indecision. It's judgment" and "That's not competition. It's a scrimmage," calling it "the most ChatGPT speech I've ever heard." "You're Matthew McConaughey. You have a very distinct and recognizable way of speaking. Why outsource that to AI?" he wrote. The "That's not X. It's Y" construction is widely cited as a ChatGPT writing tic.
In a follow-up, Walsh argued that human communication, especially on social media, has become "distinctly more bland, shallow, and cliche-ridden" since LLMs arrived, and that people using AI even for things it doesn't do better than humans is "the most ominous sign."
“Independent counts.”
