Musk told people to drop a photo of their credit card into Grok to shop for them, and X added a Community Note

Elon Musk posted on X on the morning of October 11 (Korea time): "To buy stuff, you can just take a picture of your credit card, drop it in the chat and Grok Bot will scour the Internet for the best deal on the item you want and order it." The post passed 5.5 million views and 30,000 likes, and within half a day it carried a Community Note: xAI's own privacy policy asks users not to include personal information in prompts, yet a card photo is exactly that.

The Grok Bot terms the note cites (updated September 3) add more reasons for caution. Grok Bot may keep browser sessions and credentials in a persistent cloud environment, and deleting a bot may not delete shared credentials. The terms tell customers to use human review before financial transactions and say xAI is not liable for actions its approval controls fail to stop. A few hours later Musk posted that he had asked Grok Bot to find fun Lego Star Wars kits for young kids and order them.
