Qwen released open weights for Qwen-Image-2.1-Turbo, which generates images in eight steps

Alibaba's Qwen team released Qwen-Image-2.1-Turbo, an image generation and editing model, with open weights on October 9. It is an accelerated checkpoint of Qwen-Image-2.1 on the same 7-billion-parameter architecture that needs only eight denoising steps. The eight-step schedule ships inside the checkpoint, and text and reference-image context is cached and reused across steps rather than recomputed. Qwen says fewer steps does not mean lower quality.

It is released under the Qwen Research License, so commercial users should check the terms. For now it needs Diffusers installed from source and transformers 5.17.0 or later. The model card shows portraits, posters, transparent images, UI layouts and multi-image compositions, but gives no speed or quality benchmarks.
