AI memesAI face-swaps put Samsung and SK chairmen in a girl-group dance; portrait-rights and deepfake worries grow
YTN's Nov. 1 video "Samsung and SK chairmen in a girl-group dance? AI meme explodes, with concerns" reached about 21,000 views within hours. It says face-swapping celebrities and ordinary people into idol choreography has become a pastime for people in their 20s and 30s.
Per the description, the debut MV "NEON" by rookie group A20 LITE passed 30 million views in under a month. TV personality Jung Jun-ha's swap video drew about 3.46 million views on Instagram, and clips of Samsung's Lee Jae-yong and SK's Chey Tae-won singing circulated. Korea's generative AI usage rate is 75.3% for people in their 20s and 71.1% in their 30s, versus a 44.5% average.
Concerns followed: illegal synthetic-media harm cases rose about 17% to 1,616 last year, and the IP office is pushing criminal penalties for unauthorized commercial use of publicity rights. Top comment (25 likes): "At least when the person says don't, don't just curse and refuse." Another (12 likes) said unauthorized spreading should be punished.
