DeepSeek open-sources an 'always-on AI teammate' built largely by coding agents — 5,000 GitHub stars in a day

DeepSeek has open-sourced a prototype of dsh-superagent, an agent that owns one GitHub repository and works on its own. The README says the code grew out of the team's daily development, with much of the engineering done by coding agents.
The repo was created Oct. 31 and had 5,039 stars and 480 forks by the afternoon of Nov. 1. A post by aisearchio on X introducing it drew 355 likes, and it also reached r/singularity. The license is MIT.
It ships as a bundle for DeepSeek Harness and listens to GitHub and, optionally, Feishu. When an allowed person asks for work, it opens a work item, works in its own session and directory, and replies in the original conversation, for example with a pull request. A web panel shows only what needs a person. Setup is done by telling your coding agent to read SETUP.md and set it up with you.
The design philosophy doc says: "take as little human attention as possible, and give as much value as possible." The agent acts only when asked or when a team-written rule allows it, and proactive work should start in a mode that only records what it would have done. It warns against using the agent to produce volume, such as mass pull requests.
The README stresses this is a research prototype, not an official DeepSeek product, and may contain bugs. Some designs in the related article "Exploring Super-agent Design" are not implemented yet.
