AI IPO'Big Short' investor Eisman: "Anthropic's revenue growth has slowed dramatically"; CNBC clip tops 290,000 views, top comment says companies list after the growth phase
A clip of Steve Eisman, the investor known from "The Big Short," telling CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Oct. 29 that "it's very clear Anthropic's revenue growth has slowed dramatically" passed 290,000 views on the CNBC Television channel.
Per CNBC, Eisman said the AI trade is near a "tipping point" but he is not net short. He said he has become "much more conservative" and hedged many positions to cut risk. He called Anthropic's S-1 "extremely negative" because the latest quarter's revenue was left blank, and cited an analysis in which the ratio of revenue to equipment expense fell from 2.08 in Q2 to 1.7 in Q3.
The comments focused on timing. The top comment (189 likes) said such companies list just after the high-growth phase so big investors can hand shares to retail. A comment on Eisman's line that "these guys read too much science fiction" got 182. One tech worker wrote, "can't wait for this technology to stop being overhyped" (12).
Anthropic reportedly told investors earlier this month that Q3 revenue was $16.8 billion and that it was profitable on an adjusted basis. A listing is expected in November. Alphabet's stock fell sharply after earnings on Oct. 29.
