"I was watching my usage. I was at 16% then all of a sudden it was 32%." X user Alex Finn (AlexFinn) wrote this on Oct. 29 right after OpenAI's limits announcement. He claimed that "the planned permanent 50% usage reduction that was planned for today isn't happening anymore" and that limits are now "4x higher" than where they were supposed to be. The post passed 1,000 likes.
The announcement came from Thibault Sottiaux, who leads OpenAI's Codex. On Oct. 29 he said OpenAI is "doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today." He added that Pro 200 limits won't be reduced, so Work and Codex usage there will stay the same, and that "dots" keep their extended limits, counted separately. The post passed 2.29 million views and 29,000 likes.
A cut had been rumored. YouTube channel Kai claimed on Oct. 28 that OpenAI would halve Pro 200 Codex limits from Oct. 30; the video passed 33,000 views. OpenAI never officially announced such a cut. Sottiaux is reported to have pledged earlier this month to ship a noticeable improvement every day for 28 days or reset everyone's limits, and the new post opened with "Day 25."
Reactions split. "No love for Plus users?" (1,573 likes) and "I've canceled my Plus subscription. Nobody cares about Plus users" (1,579) were top replies. One user said saying you will cut in half, not doing it, then calling it double "is playing us stupid." Plus is not part of this announcement.
