"I was interested until I saw the $50 shipping charge. Absolutely outrageous. Dealbreaker." That reply under a post about a $60 million listing drew 8,500 likes. Dexerto's Oct. 29 post passed 1.73 million views and 26,000 likes.
Dexerto reported on Oct. 28 that Minnesota IT hardware seller Core 4 Solutions listed a used 300-rack AI cluster on eBay for $59.7 million or best offer, advertising up to 9,600 Nvidia A100 GPUs and 4,200 AMD EPYC processors. The gear was decommissioned from a hyperscaler cloud, comes with a 30-day warranty and no returns. Ground shipping is free, two-day is $25 and overnight is $50.
The count checks out: four compute nodes per rack with eight A100 40GB GPUs each is 32 per rack, or 9,600 across 300 racks. Citing Tom's Hardware, Dexerto says that is 268,800 CPU cores and about 1.4 petabytes of memory. Dividing by GPUs gives about $6,200 each, but the price includes servers, CPUs, memory and networking. Dexerto's X post said "over 9,000" GPUs; the article says "up to 9,600."
The article says the A100 is older data-center hardware but still suitable for inference, machine learning and HPC.
Replies were jokes: "Got the shipping covered, just short the 60 million" (3,182 likes) and a FedEx driver tossing 9,000 GPUs over a fence (1,173).
