"There's 100% a kind of mania you can get into with coding agents, where it feels like you're getting a lot done and working all the time but nothing is really happening." Thariq (@trq212), who works on Claude Code at Anthropic, posted this on X on Oct. 29.
"I think it's often a form of avoidance of something else in life," he added. The post passed 780,000 views, about 11,800 likes, 850 reposts and 570 replies.
Replies filled with confessions. One user spent 14 months building a holding-company "harness" before switching to real business outcomes with agents: "sales are up, expenses down, but I spent way too much time on features nobody used" (116 likes). Thariq called that "a common and good arc." dax of opencode wrote "uh oh i feel like that rn" (277).
Some pushed back. One user blamed the agents themselves, saying they run "almost like a goldfish" with no memory of whether you moved forward (67 likes). Thariq replied that the products could be better at this. In a separate joke reply (860 likes) he wrote, "It's okay, no one thinks you're getting any work done."
