AI memesAI face-swap dance craze around A2O's 'NEON': even Lee Soo-man dances, and lawyers warn on likeness rights

As 'NEON' by A2O LITE, the girl group from producer Lee Soo-man, takes off, people are using generative AI to put other faces on the song's idol dance.

YTN's video on the parody craze, posted Oct 19, passed 52,000 views. Per YTN, Lee's niece Sunny of Girls' Generation posted an AI clip of Lee and composer Yoo Young-jin dancing as if they were members, and YTN's reporters turned a Cannes photo into the same dance in 10 minutes.

The top comment (69 likes) laughed at the Korean mishearing of the lyrics as 'divorce and non-marriage'; another saying AI covers of Bang Si-hyuk and Min Hee-jin 'crossed the line' got 47.

JTBC's Issue Nalmeok also tried making AI dance videos (18,000 views) and raised the problem of using faces without consent. Lawyer Kim Moon-hwan told YTN that labeling a clip as AI or making it non-commercial may not avoid liability for copyright or personality-rights violations.
