USA U.S. judge whose ruling contained AI hallucinations is taken off the case
A federal judge whose opinion included AI-generated errors will no longer oversee the case.
Per Bloomberg Law on Oct 22, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit vacated U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate's injunction and ordered the case reassigned. The case concerns a Mississippi law banning the use of public education funds on diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
Wingate said last year that his law clerk had used the AI tool Perplexity to help draft an order in the case. Reuters reported that the ruling also lifted the block on Mississippi's DEI ban.
