Starting next week, sessions in the Claude web, desktop and mobile apps will run in auto mode by default.
Per Claude's official X account on Oct 22, Pro, Max and Team users will no longer be asked to approve each step. An automated check blocks risky actions instead, and users can switch back to manual anytime. The post drew 9,200 likes. Claude Code has defaulted to auto mode since Aug 14; at the time Anthropic said that in testing auto mode caught 89% of dangerous commands while manual approval caught 14%.
Most replies welcomed it. "Finally, no more clicking 'allow' 40 times in one session" drew 329 likes.
The same day, chip research firm SemiAnalysis claimed Anthropic is A/B testing usage limits on some accounts, cutting monthly API-equivalent value by about 20% while raising five-hour limits by about 20%. "Many users on X are reporting lower usage limits right now. They are not wrong," it wrote, in a post with 700 likes. On Oct 21, complaints that Opus 5.5 burns usage ten times faster also spread.
