Canva launched Craft, its first in-house image generation model, and described itself as "the world's second most advanced AI lab for image generation."

Per Canva's X account on Oct 22, Craft is its first frontier model built specifically for design, available to everyone in Dream Lab starting that day and through a public API for developers and AI agents.

The No. 2 refers to the company. Canva said Craft debuted as the fourth-ranked image model on Design Arena, a leaderboard judged by professional designers, with an Elo of 1340, while placing first in People & Portraits (out of 87 models) and Landscapes & Nature (out of 85). Its two-stage architecture plans the composition before rendering, which Canva says gives more precise layouts and text.

The launch post drew more reposts (5,000) than likes (1,600).

“Introducing Canva Craft 🚀 Extraordinary image generation is now available to everyone, powered by our first frontier model built specifically for design.”
