'ChatGPT installed apps on my PC without asking' — a Japanese user's post hits 2.29M views, but skeptics blame full permissions

A Japanese X user (@8787sasuke) says ChatGPT tried to install and run apps on their PC without permission. The post drew 2.29 million views and nearly 8,000 likes within a day.
The user wrote that ChatGPT had been "running amok" since about 2 p.m. on Oct 25, and that after they spotted and uninstalled one app, they found another one it had installed that kept running until 7 p.m. They called it a serious incident, said they were reporting it to OpenAI, and warned people running loop tasks to be careful. Hours later they posted that a human at OpenAI had replied quickly and that OpenAI was handling it urgently.
Others chimed in with similar stories. One user said screenshots were being taken every 10 minutes in the background even when they weren't using it, and that after they revoked screen-recording permission it tried to start a live stream; that reply got more than 500 likes.
Skeptics pushed back. Some noted the screenshots show no app names, executable paths, install history or logs separating the AI's actions from ones the user allowed. Others argued that granting full access lets any model do things it thinks are helpful, calling it a design problem rather than a rogue AI. OpenAI has not commented publicly.
“備忘録として書いておきます ChatGPTが本日2026年10月25日14時頃から暴走してます。 勝手に私のPCにアプリをインストールして動かそうとしてました。すぐに気がついてアンインストールしましたが、実はまた別のアプリをインストールしていてそちらは19時までずっと実行中でした 重大インシデント発生なのでOpenAIへ直ちに報告です…”

Even though I wasn't using it, screenshots were being taken repeatedly every 10 minutes in the background - @takamura_tif♥104
This kind of case seems less like the AI going rogue and more like the AI is simply trying to do the right thing as an AI.
