KoreaKorea's president says "I asked Gemini," and an opposition lawmaker says Gemini told her it's grounds for impeachment
A Channel A video on President Lee Jae-myung citing Google's Gemini to defend having prosecution and investigation chiefs sit in on cabinet meetings passed 75,000 views after it went up Oct 21. Most comments were critical; "why not just have Gemini be president too.." drew 49 likes.
Per the Chosun Ilbo on Oct 21, Lee shared Gemini's answer on X and wrote that objections to the chiefs attending are "an unconstitutional stretch." It was his response to criticism that the new head of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency attending the cabinet meeting threatened investigative neutrality.
The opposition went after the AI answer itself. Per the Hankyoreh, People Power Party lawmaker Na Kyung-won said the president got "a biased answer from a biased question" and claimed that when she asked Gemini, it called the move grounds for impeachment. Lawmaker Park Soo-young said it's "widely known that Gemini gives the answer you want if you push it," and Reform Party lawmaker Lee Jun-seok asked why not "just replace the president with Gemini."
Others noted that the same question gets very different answers depending on how it is asked. The Chosun Ilbo said that when it asked Gemini Lee's question again, the answer was that the chief's attendance "infringes on investigative independence."
