Anthropic unveils Claude Duet, an assistant that speaks first, and Korean users ask why they're left out

Anthropic released Claude Duet as a research preview: an assistant app that flags what needs your attention before you ask and keeps working while you're away.
Per Anthropic's Oct 21 announcement, Duet is built around Claude Opus 5.5. It sends a short morning brief on the most important items across your connected apps, then messages you only when something needs you. It runs on a virtual machine with its own browser, so your laptop or phone doesn't need to stay on. The waitlist opens first to US Pro and Max subscribers, and Duet shares Claude's existing usage limits.
Anthropic leaned on safety. Duet never directly sees passwords or sign-in tokens, and a new classifier blocks it from sending things like credit card numbers or government IDs. Stripe said it is working with Anthropic so businesses can make purchases and issue refunds inside Duet.
The announcement passed 31,000 likes and 3 million views on X. OpenAI Codex lead Thibault Sottiaux replied, "Dot, meet Duet. Duet, meet Dot. Be nice to each other." Korean users replied asking why Korea has no access, and a Threads post noted that paying for Pro still doesn't get you Duet. After OpenAI's Dots, xAI's Grok Bot and Meta's Muse, Anthropic is now in the proactive-assistant race. Anthropic said Duet can still misjudge what's urgent and that it will tune it with early users' feedback.
“We’re opening a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent.”
