KoreaA chest camera, a smartwatch and an AI: a Korean student aced a midterm and got an F

A midterm cheating scheme combining a tiny camera, a smartwatch and generative AI was caught at a university in Seoul.

Per the JoongAng Ilbo on Oct 21, during a major-course midterm at Konkuk University on Oct 14 (about 100 students), a student sent the questions to a friend with a camera on his chest; the friend solved them with AI and sent the answers to the student's smartwatch.

The professor grew suspicious of the perfect score and asked the student to solve the same problems, which he couldn't, and he confessed. The exam was zeroed and he received an F. The department will ban all cameras and watches from finals and check glasses.

Three cases of cheating with AI smart glasses were caught at university essay exams this year. The education ministry has told schools to ban smart glasses at the national college entrance exam, but teacher unions say proctors are being handed the job without equipment or clear criteria.
