A user in South Korea says they told OpenAI's Codex to earn 100,000 won (about $70) a month, and the AI signed up for Kmong, a Korean freelance marketplace, and landed a real job. The story, posted on Threads on Oct 21, drew 118 likes.

Per the seven-part thread by @cozystonej, Codex got the instruction two or three weeks earlier, created a Kmong account and listed a short-form video service at 55,000 won a job and an Excel automation service at 190,000 won. It made sample Shorts, uploaded them to YouTube and added the Kmong link to the channel profile. Listings were approved on Oct 8 and Oct 15, and on Oct 17 a client asked for a 30-second opening video for an event.

Then it got messy. The user wrote that the first cut using real footage looked "too bland." They ran an RTX 5090 machine remotely from a business trip in China, and Claude composed background music in GarageBand, but the client wanted something grander. They ended up buying Logic Pro, adding Suno and pulling three all-nighters.

The client paid 500,000 won for two videos, and about 390,000 won (roughly $280) arrived after fees. "Take out 370,000 won for Logic Pro and there's nothing left," the user wrote, adding that AI video generation takes more hands-on work and time than expected.
