"Two Max plans, maxed in three days": Opus 5.5 users say their limits are draining 10x faster

Complaints that Claude Opus 5.5 usage is suddenly running out much faster piled up on X.
"When Anthropic launched Opus 5.5, Claude Code felt almost unlimited. The model was so good I stopped using my $200 Codex plan entirely. A few weeks later, I have two Claude Code Max subscriptions and hit the usage limit on both within 3 days," developer Marouane Lamharzi Alaoui wrote on Oct 20, drawing 1,273 likes. Under another post asking whether Opus 5.5 was burning limits "10x faster than usual," one user said their five-hour allowance vanished in an hour after a week of nonstop xhigh use.
Some replies pointed at user settings. One said subagents inherit the main session's effort level unless set, so running Opus 5.5 on max with 11 subagents meant 11 max-effort sessions; setting each subagent to high by hand fixed it. Asked whether his workload had simply grown, the original poster said "that could be too."
On the OpenAI side, a Reddit r/OpenAI post saying "chatgpt plus burns way faster than before" also hit the daily top, with the poster claiming GPT-6.1 Sol works only 10 to 15 minutes on a five-hour limit.

are your subagents running at max effort? if you don't set it, they inherit the main session's. mine was Opus 5.5 on max, so 11 parallel subagents = 11 max-effort sessions I was on pace to burn the 5-hour limit in ~3 hours now I set every subagent to high by hand - @itsLoganAbell♥57
absolutely, I've been able to use opus 5.5 on xhigh essentially non stop for the last week. all of a sudden, my 5 hour usage disappeared in an hour, and my weekly usage is down to 50% with 4 days left. clear as day nerf to usage limits
