KoreaSix of the ten AI models on the platform Korea's civil servants use come from abroad

The government-wide AI platform Korean civil servants use for their work carries 11 language models, ZDNet Korea reported on October 10, citing data the science ministry gave the office of lawmaker Kim Jang-gyeom of the People Power Party. Samsung SDS's platform has five and Naver Cloud's has six; counting OpenAI's GPT-OSS, which sits on both, only once leaves ten, of which four are Korean and six are foreign.

Samsung SDS hosts models from Upstage and Samsung Electronics alongside Google, OpenAI and Meta, while Naver Cloud pairs Naver and LG AI Research with Nvidia, Google and OpenAI. Kim said the government holds its sovereign foundation-model program to strict standards of independence but has no clear Korea-first rule for the platform its own staff use. Industry voices say swapping out foreign models now is unrealistic and Korean ones should be added step by step.
