InvestmentAnthropic to raise up to $3.5 billion in Japan alone, above SpaceX's haul there by $1.3 billion

Anthropic will raise up to $3.5 billion (about 4.7 trillion won) from Japanese investors in its IPO, among the largest-ever offerings by a foreign company in Japan.

Nikkei reported on the 2nd, citing a securities registration filed with Japanese authorities, as relayed by Money Today. SpaceX raised $2.185 billion in Japan in June. Anthropic filed with the U.S. SEC on Oct. 26 and plans to list Class A shares on Nasdaq under 'ANT' this month. The market is talking about a valuation of up to $2 trillion and proceeds of $100 billion.

Sentiment is cooling, though. OpenAI pushed its listing to next year, and Solidigm, SK hynix's U.S. subsidiary, shelved its IPO plans. Investor Jeffrey Gundlach posted on X that Anthropic hoping for an investment-grade bond rating is 'absurd' and that any agency granting it should be investigated (about 1,000 likes; not confirmed with Gundlach).

The listing is also a gauge of how much coding agents and legal and finance tools take from software vendors' revenue. Some read Claude Code-style spending as replacing existing developer-tool subscriptions, but nothing in the filing confirms such figures. This is not buy or sell advice.
