Posts on X on Nov. 1 (US time) claimed that OpenAI's "GPT-6.2 Astra" and Anthropic's "Mythos 5.5" had turned up, without announcements, in Codex and on Anthropic's website respectively. Neither company has confirmed either claim.
Developer smlay (@Smlay_ero) wrote that gpt-6.2-astra is rolling out and can be run from the Codex CLI with `codex --model gpt-6.2-astra`, a post that drew 910 likes. Asked whether it was an official release, smlay replied that it can already be selected but benchmark results haven't been published. Token Gremlin said GPT-6.2 Astra had appeared in Codex usage analytics (1,100+ likes) and wrote that Anthropic can't stand OpenAI having a single day in the spotlight, as Mythos 5.5 "is starting to show up too."
The AI news account Chubby (@kimmonismus) claimed Mythos 5.5 is already listed in the HTML source of Anthropic's official site, a post with 2,967 likes. Chubby said an anonymous tipster sent it and added a source capture in a follow-up. When we opened the anthropic.com source on the morning of Nov. 2, it contained "mythos-5-1" but no "5.5". In a separate post (2,302 likes) Chubby wrote that GPT-6.2 is "very close" and would likely be OpenAI's new flagship in response to Fable 5.5.
Expectations spilled into prediction markets and YouTube. Polymarket posted a 69% chance that the next GPT-6 Astra model arrives within two weeks. Indian developer Mehul Mohan (@mehulmpt) predicted DeepSeek V4.1 Pro, Fable 5.5, an Anthropic IPO and GPT 6.2 "bel" this month (538 likes). The YouTube channel Universe of AI posted a video saying a "Fable 5.5 Max" checkpoint drew a pelican in SVG and release looks close; it passed 25,000 views. On Oct. 31 Anthropic renamed Claude Max 20x to Ultra and removed the 5-hour limit, which some read as a sign of an imminent launch.
“Mythos 5.5 is already listed HTML source code of Anthropic's official website Thanks to the anonymous person who sent me the tip via email :)”
