Anthropic said in a report built on its own internal data that junior roles fell from 27% to 9% of its technical hires.
The report, "How employment is changing at Anthropic," published Oct. 16, says the junior share of employees in technical departments slipped from 21% to 14% since early 2025, with junior postings falling especially sharply since December. In an April survey, about a third of ML managers and a fifth of software engineering managers said they were hiring less because of AI.
Agent hours worked at the company now outnumber human hours six to one. One engineer described facing "an army of Claudes, with every one asking for my attention." Coding-agent sessions by non-technical staff rose from two a month in August 2025 to 90 in May. Anthropic said it has set up an early-warning system for jobs at risk and prioritizes internal redeployment.
On X, a post extrapolating the trend — "Anthropic is on track to stop hiring technical juniors by 2027" — drew 1,700 likes. Others pointed out that the report makes no such projection and the line is a straight-line extrapolation.
