A growing list of major websites is blocking the AI agents that book, pay and shop on users' behalf.
According to The Verge on Oct 17, Delta Air Lines is preventing agents from booking tickets for users, and Yelp told TechCrunch it only lets in agents that pay for its data licensing program. JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab confirmed they block AI agents from accessing accounts over security concerns. Users also say Cars.com and Amtrak, which used to work, no longer let their agents through.
Amazon has already turned away Meta's Muse, and users report xAI's Grok Bot and OpenAI's Dots hitting the same wall. Meta has instead partnered with Walmart, Gap, Sephora and Best Buy, and Shopify has opened its storefronts to agents.
A post rounding up the blocks — "the internet is starting to block AI agents that were supposed to do everything for us" — drew 4,900 likes and 370,000 views on X. "Does this impact the perceived value of the Anthropics and the OpenAIs? I would say absolutely," EquiStamp CEO Chris Canal told The Verge.
