USWhite House refuses to release its pre-release AI model review framework; FOIA suit yields emails but withholds the framework
The US government has not released details of a program created by a June executive order for pre-release review of frontier AI models. A FOIA suit produced only some records.
According to Gadget Review, the program is voluntary: developers give the government advance access to frontier models, with the Office of the National Cyber Director and the Commerce Department involved and a 'trusted partner' designation granting early access. Protect Democracy asked for the framework, participation records, the partner list and legal-authority records, and both sides agreed the government would produce records by Oct. 30.
The administration produced emails about trusted partners but withheld the framework draft and records of organizations given early access, citing national security and commercial secrecy, The Information reported, per Gadget Review.
