On the day of the rout, X filled with Democratic AI statements. A post quoting Sen. Bernie Sanders saying Democrats must enact a national moratorium on AI data centers, pause advanced AI and ban superintelligence drew about 1,370 likes. A post saying Rep. Yassamin Ansari wants to pause advanced AI and ban superintelligence on day one drew about 6,400, noting AI investment is about a third of the U.S. economy. On Reddit's r/OpenAI a post called Abdul El-Sayed the 'Pause AI candidate'.
Legislation is another matter. KFDM reported Rep. Ted Lieu, co-chair of a House Democratic AI commission, said a document of policy priorities will follow. Democrats have majorities but not enough to override a veto, and President Trump, who calls AI 'SI', has opposed AI regulation. An exit poll said 56% of voters called AI and data centers a major factor.
Critics were loud. User johnennis wrote AI development 'will not pause, it will just stop being seen' (about 1,100 likes); The jun_song account called opposing AI progress itself 'a sign of low IQ' (about 1,600). Both remarks are as quoted in X posts.
“BREAKING: 🇺🇸 Democratic Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari wants to pause advanced AI and ban superintelligence on day 1.”
