Claude Code gets mods: a few lines of TypeScript now change how it behaves and looks

Anthropic added mods to Claude Code on October 1. A mod is a small TypeScript function that changes how Claude Code works. It can rewrite a prompt before it reaches the model, block or retry tool calls, approve or deny permission requests, redact secrets from tool output, and edit interface elements or add buttons and inputs. You can write one yourself or ask Claude Code to write it. The @ClaudeDevs announcement drew 11,000 likes.
Mods ship inside plugins and install with /plugin in both the CLI and the desktop app. The built-in /diff pane is the first feature to become a mod, so you can turn it off or change it, and Anthropic says more built-ins will follow.
Mods run with full access to your machine and are not sandboxed. On Team and Enterprise plans a security mod called sec-default loads first to block risky operations. A "Getting started with Claude Code mods" guide is up on claude.dev.
