KoreaAt the parliamentary audit, the People Power Party called Korea's sovereign AI model project an 'AI Daejang-dong' and the Democrats called it foresight

At the Ministry of Science and ICT's audit by the National Assembly's science committee on October 6, the parties clashed over the government's independent AI foundation model project. People Power Party lawmaker Park Jung-ha said the project, more than a year in, seems to have lost direction and delivered less than promised, adding that some even ask whether it is becoming an 'AI Daejang-dong', a reference to a notorious land-development scandal.

Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Hyun asked where Korea would stand in the global AI race without the project and the AI Basic Act. Lee Joo-hee said the government showed foresight and should focus even more. As reported yesterday, the government is keeping this project while pursuing a separate 4.7 trillion won frontier AI program.
