KoreaKorea asks a 42-agency council to open public APIs ahead of the December 'AI for Everyone' launch

The National AI Strategy Committee held the fifth Chief AI Officer (CAIO) council meeting in Seoul on October 2, chaired for the first time by Lee Hae-min, presidential senior secretary for AI. Attendance grew from 28 ministerial-level agencies to 42 central government bodies with the addition of 14 vice-ministerial agencies such as the Personnel Management Service, the Legislative Counsel's Office and the National Data Agency.

The Ministry of Science and ICT shared its readiness plans for "AI for Everyone", due to launch nationwide in December. Agencies were asked to connect their already open public APIs to the service for public AI agents, to open APIs and data not yet released, and to work on personal data handling standards and security and safety checks for AI agents. Lee said good policies lose momentum behind walls between ministries and that the council will become a body that coordinates and decides, not just receives reports.
