"AI turned a 50-million-yen build into a 30,000-yen one." A July boast by GMO Internet Group chief Masatoshi Kumagai — that he, a non-engineer, wrote 100,000 lines of code in two months — is resurfacing as the company reels from breaches over the following three months.
Per threads trending on X, GMO disclosed a ~900,000-record leak on Oct 5 (confirmed at 894,082 on Oct 14); Kumagai declared "never again" on Oct 15; then from Oct 21, users of an FX trading cloud service reported unauthorized trades in their accounts. GMO said stored login credentials were likely stolen and misused, affecting 26,739 cases, and will pay a flat 5,000 yen to victims. "The security team's October is too pitiful," one post read.
