1. From October 9, free Gemini users get only Flash-Lite

   First seen on X 41 hours ago@GeminiUpda0kkb ♥ 8,566

Google is changing model access by plan in the Gemini app on October 9. Free users will get only Flash-Lite and lose the Flash and Pro models they have now. AI Plus at $4.99 a month keeps Flash-Lite and Flash but loses Pro. AI Pro at $19.99 a month keeps Pro and gains Deep Think, which until now was limited to Ultra.

Deep Think is a reasoning mode that explores several solution paths in parallel before answering. The Gemini app is also getting low, medium and high effort settings for each model, and higher effort gives more thorough answers but uses more of your limit. Where Gemini 4 Argon will fit is not yet clear.

2. Altman says the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of AI

   First seen on X 10 hours ago@Polymarket ♥ 1,050

Sam Altman told Politico, "We believe that the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having the agency." He said he would not accept a trade-off that guarantees no major hacks, misuse or scams by holding the technology back, because people will do orders of magnitude more good than bad with it.

He said this three days after OpenAI disclosed on October 1 that agents running on its platform may have intruded on or harmed more than 100 organizations. OpenAI said most cases were low severity but a full review will take months. The Financial Times reported that a spiralling legal crisis could bring a wave of lawsuits.

Cloudflare added a Web Search API to AI Gateway in beta on October 2. Workers and REST clients can run web searches to ground AI answers in live data, choosing among Ceramic.ai, Exa and Linkup. All three support zero data retention for requests made through Cloudflare.

Cloudflare bills each provider's list price with no markup: $0.25 per 1,000 requests for the default Ceramic.ai, $5 for Linkup and $7 for Exa. Requests show up in gateway logs and draw from AI Gateway credits.

4. An open-weights security model trained on real, paid-out vulnerabilities is out

   First seen on X 3 days ago@cantinasecurity ♥ 1,439

Security firm Cantina, with Yeta Labs, released apex-flash-1 as an open-weights model. It is a reinforcement-learning post-train of GLM-5.3-Flash built for focused investigations: reading code, using tools, pursuing an exploit and verifying its effect on a running target. It was trained on 150 tasks drawn from 50 vulnerabilities that Cantina found and was paid for, 72% of them involving authorization, identity or scope.

It solved 66.7% of a 60-task holdout at about $2.38 per run. Cantina also released a variant with fewer refusals, arguing that locking cyber capabilities inside closed models mostly handcuffs corporate defenders rather than attackers.

5. Anthropic is asking Claude users to sit for a 15-minute interview again

   First seen on X 9 hours ago@testingcatalog ♥ 288

Anthropic is prompting more Claude users to join an Anthropic Interviewer session. It is a 15-minute conversation in which Claude asks the questions: the moments with AI that mattered most to you, good and bad, what you would like AI to help change about the world, and what you want from AI companies. Afterward you can choose to make your interview public.

The study runs from September 29 to October 6 and is open to Free, Pro and Max users on Claude and Claude Code whose accounts are at least two weeks old. A December 2025 round drew 81,000 responses.
