By his numbers, he ran 7.63 billion tokens through Codex worth $4,214, 2.21 billion through Claude worth $892, and 50 million through the DeepSeek API for 70 cents — $5,107 in total and nearly 10 billion tokens in a month.
Asked what he paid out of pocket with subscriptions, he answered "~240$" — about 5% of the list-price value, with flat-rate plans covering the rest. A reply mocking the framing ("'my $5k AI bill' 'i didn't actually pay it'") got 90 likes.
The gap between subscriptions and API prices keeps feeding the usage-limit debate. On r/ClaudeAI, a post asking "Limits got at least halved?" hit the top of the day on Oct 26.
