   Anthropic is adding monthly API credits to its Max and Team plans: $100 on Max 5x and $200 on Max 20x. Team plans get $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, pooled and capped at $500 a month. Free, Pro and Enterprise plans are not eligible.

   To claim, link a Console organization under billing settings on claude.ai. Credits become available after seven days on an eligible plan and expire at the end of each billing cycle. They cover the Messages and Batch APIs, Managed Agents and the Agent SDK run with an API key. They do not cover interactive Claude Code in the terminal or IDE, or Claude used through Bedrock or Vertex AI.

   OpenAI began rolling out Ultrafast mode for GPT-6.1 Sol on October 8 in the API, Codex and ChatGPT Work. OpenAI says it delivers near-Astra intelligence at up to eight times the speed of standard Sol. In the API, set service_tier to ultrafast.

   API pricing is $12 per million input tokens and $60 per million output tokens, six times the standard $2 and $10. Codex lead Tibo Sottiaux shipped it as day four of the 28-day Codex campaign, along with instant steering so the model reacts right away when you change direction mid-task. Some users on X complained that it favors the most expensive plan and API customers.

   OpenAI brought GPT-6 and Intelligent UI to the Chat tab in ChatGPT on October 7. It rolled out first to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, then began expanding to Free and Go the next day. Paid tiers run on GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go run on GPT-6 Luna.

   Intelligent UI builds answers as interfaces. A road trip appears on a map, a dinner plan comes with a shopping table that recalculates when you change the number of guests, and ChatGPT can make a bill splitter or a small game inside the chat. GPT-6 also starts answering while it is still thinking, and on questions that need web search GPT-6 Instant begins responding 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. The models behind Work and Codex are unchanged.

4. From November 12, sustained abuse of Claude for no reason breaks Anthropic's usage policy

   Anthropic has updated its usage policy for the first time in over a year, effective November 12. The new rules prohibit sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward its models. The company says this covers only extreme cases of repeated cruelty with no discernible purpose, and not ordinary frustration, pushback, dark creative themes, or model testing and research. The main enforcement remains Claude ending the conversation.

   The surveillance rules also tightened. Tracking people without consent and deciding or recommending whom to investigate or arrest are now prohibited. Hardware that Claude operates and that could injure people must have an operator who can watch it and stop it. The blanket ban on personalized election targeting was removed. On Threads, some users pushed back that an LLM cannot feel pain.

5. Three safety researchers fired by OpenAI urge its board to keep models' reasoning open to monitoring

   Tomek Korbak, Mikita Balesni and Jasmine Wang of OpenAI's safety and alignment teams were fired last week. OpenAI says they violated its policies on accessing and handling sensitive company information, and the Wall Street Journal reported they allegedly shared information with an outside AI safety organization. All three deny it. Wang wrote on X that the only reason she was given was that she had accessed an executive's email.

   In a letter to OpenAI's board and safety committees, the three ask the company to preserve the ability to monitor models' chains of thought and not to pursue work that reduces it. An OpenAI spokesperson said the firings were not about raising safety concerns, and an internal memo said the company strongly agreed with the letter's recommendations.

6. Google's new work agent picks between Gemini and Claude models for each task

   Google Cloud unveiled the Gemini agent at its Gemini at Work event on October 8. From a single prompt box it takes on questions, document work and coding, draws on a company's systems and data, and puts the results straight into the documents, inboxes and developer tools people already use. It picks the best model for each job and has built-in cost controls.

   Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the agent works across Gemini models and Anthropic's Claude models today, with other private and open models to follow. Versions for financial services and legal are in preview. Google said nearly 80% of Google Cloud customers use its AI products and nearly 500 customers have each processed more than a trillion tokens.
