How to see what is using up your plan limits with /usage in Claude Code
Type /usage in Claude Code to see the session cost, your plan usage limits and activity stats. On a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan it also breaks down what is counting against your limits. Version 2.1.299, released October 14, added warnings for max effort, workflows, always-on context and large tool results.
/usage
The breakdown has three parts.
- Recent usage attributed to skills, subagents, plugins and individual MCP servers, each as a percentage of the total. An MCP server is only credited with requests that consumed one of its tool results.
- Behavior flags, such as long context or cache misses, when one accounts for 10% or more of recent usage.
- One row per heavy
/loopor scheduled task, ordered by total tokens, with how often it fires, how many times it ran, total and per-run tokens, and when it last ran (v2.1.242 or later).
Press d for the last 24 hours or w for the last 7 days. The figures are approximate and come from local session history on this machine, so usage from other devices or claude.ai is not included. /usage opens right away even while Claude is responding, and /cost and /stats are aliases. In the VS Code extension, the same attribution and flags appear in the Account & usage dialog with a Day and Week toggle, without the loop rows.
