How to view two Claude Code desktop sessions side by side
In the Code tab of the Claude Code desktop app you can show two sessions side by side in one window. Use it to keep an eye on how far one session has gotten while another is working.
- In the sidebar, hold
Cmdon macOS orCtrlon Windows and click a session. It opens in a second pane next to the session you already have open. - While the split is active, clicking another sidebar session replaces whichever pane has focus.
- To close the focused pane and return to a single session, press
Cmd+\on macOS orCtrl+\on Windows.
Open a new session with Cmd+N (Ctrl+N on Windows), and cycle through sidebar sessions with Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab. To keep two sessions in the same Git repository from touching each other's files, pick the worktree option next to the branch name when you start a session. Worktrees go in <project-root>/.claude/worktrees/ by default; change the location with Worktree location in Settings > Claude Code.
