How to accept Codex app's next-message suggestions with Tab

After Codex responds, the Codex desktop app uses the current conversation to suggest your next message in the composer (composer predictions). It launched in beta on October 9.

1. Send a message in a supported thread and wait for Codex to finish.
2. When a suggestion appears in the message box, press Tab.
3. The suggestion becomes an editable draft. Edit it, then send.

Accepting a prediction only fills the box; it doesn't send the message. To write something else, just start typing.

Predictions use only the conversation in the current thread and don't look up memories or connected apps on their own. Generating them doesn't count toward Codex usage limits or credits; normal limits apply when you send.

It's available to users 18 and older on personal ChatGPT Pro plans in supported regions, in local and SSH threads of the desktop app with GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. It's on by default for eligible users. Toggle it with Show predictions in Settings → General → Composer.
