How to check your remaining Codex CLI usage limits with /status and /usage
When you use Codex with a ChatGPT account, each plan has usage limits, and weekly limits may also apply. If your allowance seems to drain faster than expected, check it from inside the CLI without leaving the session.
- Type
/status. It shows the session model, approval policy and remaining context, along with your remaining usage limits. - Type
/usageto open the usage menu. You can view token activity there, or redeem an earned reset if you have one. - To open a period directly, add it after the command.
/usage daily
/usage weekly
/usage cumulative
- To keep limits on screen, open
/statuslineand add the limits item to the footer. Your choices are saved in config.toml.
Check the usage dashboard for reset times. Fast and Ultrafast modes use included limits faster than Standard mode on the same model, so turn Fast off with /fast when you are running low. Sessions signed in with an API key are billed at API rates. Without Codex account sign-in, /usage only shows a sign-in prompt.
